Meet the Author program

Our Meet the Author/Illustrator Program Brings Literacy to Life!

Just a few years ago, the Meet the Author/Illustrator program consisted of one veteran author team. Today, the program has blossomed to include a wide range of awarding winning authors and illustrators that visit each class (pre-kindergarten through fifth grade). This intimate experience allows for maximum interaction between children and author/illustrator. The program features artists from the community (literally, many of the authors live within a few blocks of the school). Running into an author or illustrator in the neighborhood after having met him/her in the classroom leaves a lasting impression. By emphasizing the joy of reading, as well as demystifying the writing and illustrating process (yes, even famous artists have their work edited by a publisher before it is ready for print) our children are inspired as they create their own stories.
